L&L Archives: Melbourne, Day 2

Day two in Melbourne started slightly chaotic.

I woke up in a rush to meet Irvin, a friend I met in Sydney, for a guided tour of the city. We learned some Melbourne history, nodded politely at important facts, and before I knew it, I was taking photos of Parliament House. I turned around to rejoin the group and… they were gone. Fully gone. Vanished.

Irvin and I wandered around for a bit pretending we’d definitely spot them any second. We did not. So we pivoted.

Instead, we followed one of the guide’s earlier recommendations and went to Naked for Satan in Fitzroy. Excellent rooftop. Strong drinks. Slightly chaotic decor in a way that feels intentional. We ordered lunch, congratulated ourselves on adapting quickly, and declared it our new self-guided tour.

From there, we wandered through Fitzroy, cut through Fitzroy Gardens, passed the Yarra River, and walked through the Block Arcade.

Later, we met up with our friend Chris at Beneath Driver Lane (dark, moody, good energy) before heading to dinner at Yūgen. A friend told me not to skip the sashimi, so I didn’t. It was unreal. The interior design alone is worth the reservation, but the food absolutely delivered. For the quality, the price felt fair. Strong 10/10 energy.

After dinner, the three of us walked back toward the CBD and passed the Shrine of Remembrance, lit up against the night sky. The city skyline was glowing, and there were even fireworks going off somewhere in the distance, because apparently Melbourne likes theatrics.

All in all, a very touristy day two. We lost the tour, found a rooftop, ate extremely well, and ended up exactly where we were supposed to be.
